Our Community

Over the past 10 years we have consistently invested 10% of our billable time into pro-bono charitable work in the marine sector. We regard this 'tithe' on our time as part of our DNA - allowing us to provide charitable organisations access to high quality maritime legal services.

Some examples of our work include:

Youth with a Mission (YWAM)

YWAM Medical Ships Australia

Peter Dawson is a key external advisor to YWAM Medical Ships.  YWAM Medical Ships is a Christian charity that addresses health care and training needs in Papua New Guinea (PNG) in partnership with the relevant national and provincial government administrations.  We have assisted in the structuring of their vessel operations, advice on flagging and operations and much more.

View this video of Papua New Guinea through the eyes of a child to give you an inside glimpse into what YWAM Medical Ships is doing in PNG.

YWAM Ships Kona

YWAM Ships Kona operate the vessels Pacific Link and YWAM Liberty, both of which are currently operating in PNG.  YWAM Ships Kona run a crew training facility on Kona, Hawaii.  Peter Dawson has assisted YWAM Kona in the operation of the Pacific Link which has a long track record of operation in PNG.  He also assisted in the recent acquisition of the icebreaker Liberty (formerly L'Astrolabe) and the structuring of the vessel operations.

YWAM Newcastle

YWAM Newcastle has recently acquired the sailing vessel Ruach, which will be deployed to PNG to assist in the delivery of primary health care in remote provinces.  Peter Dawson assisted YWAM Newcastle with the acquisition, and structuring of the vessel owning company, and flagging of the vessel.

This video takes you on a tour of Ruach.

Marine Education

NZ Fisheries Museum and Maritime Education Centre Trust

Peter Dawson is Chair of the NZ Fisheries Museum and Marine Education Centre Trust, a charitable organisation set up to establish an aquarium and marine education centre in Nelson.

As the biggest fishing port in Australasia, the centre will allow Nelson to put its fishing and maritime stories on show, as well as stories relating to conservation and the wider marine environment.  The centre will includes educational facilities for school groups to learn, fish tanks and interactive displays, plus public space for organisations to host events, and food and hospitality.

This is an exciting development for Nelson and we are proud to be involved.
