New Zealand Customs’ consultation update - proposed rule changes for visiting yachts to NZ

The NZ Marine Industry Association has, in its latest newsletter, advised that NZ Customs is working through submissions received on their proposed rule changes for visiting yachts to New Zealand and is in discussions with NZ Marine representations.

Timelines for the next phase of the proposed changes are understood to be advised to the representative group before long.

NZ Marine have been hosting a welcome to the South Pacific and info on visiting NZ function for superyachts in Tahiti. NZ Customs is aware of this and have advised a guideline for industry communications with superyachts considering a NZ visit.

NZ Customs has also updated its website with guidance on the sale of temporarily imported small craft in New Zealand, covering the process for getting permission to sell, criteria for sale and refund of security deposit. This is relevant for owners wishing to sell their vessel in New Zealand under a Temporary Import Entry (TIE).

Information on the sale of vessels is on the NZ Customs’ website under Travel to and from New Zealand by small craft.

Dawson and Associates are able to assist with advice on your entry requirements, including the requirements to apply for a TIE. If you are looking to purchase a vessel in New Zealand that is under a TIE, or own a foreign flagged vessel and wish to apply for a TIE, please contact Peter Dawson on +64 27 229 9624 peter@maritimelaw.co.nz or Troy Stade on +64 27 368 6730 troy@maritimelaw.co.nz.
