Baltic Big League
Troy has had an article published in the latest edition of the Professional Skipper magazine, taking a departure from his normal legal writing and having a go at some travel writing.
Troy and his wife Claire travelled to Gdansk, Poland, in the middle of the year and took the opportunity to tour the enormous shipyard and dock facilities there, as well as visiting Sunreef Yachts, the yard where a number of Dawson and Associates clients have purchased new build yachts.
While New Zealand prides itself as a maritime centre of excellence for boat building and marine engineering, the entire experience served as inspiration for what our major port cities could emulate – making New Zealand a global leader in specialised maritime sectors. Gdansk is an enormous shipbuilding and refit hub, as well as Europe’s dominant port of import and export for a number of commodities, and so offers a huge array of different vessel classes, port infrastructures, and opportunity for innovation.
While being a fundamentally tourist experience for Troy, it demonstrated the importance of maritime trade and infrastructure in an enormous way, and should be on the must-visit list of any keen mariner.
Dawson and Associates are experts in maritime legal issues in New Zealand and internationally. If you have any questions relating to vessel ownership, construction and operation, port state control, shipping, or anything else to do with commercial and recreational maritime operations, please contact Peter Dawson peter@maritimelaw.co.nz; +64 27 229 9624 or Troy Stade troy@maritimelaw.co.nz; +64 27 3686 730.
